We’ve all seen the GORGEOUS outdoor, golden hour couples photos that make your jaw drop. I love photographing those types of sessions, however, in-home sessions have started growing on me more and more. When you think of a couples or family photo session you usually think of the epic backdrops and pretty outfits, so why would I like indoor lighting and jeans so much? So here are my top 5 reasons to do an In-Home Photo Session.
Sure, it’s super fun to go out and explore the gorgeous places we live and take pictures while doing so. However, those places are not where we spend our little “in between” moments aka the moments that end up being some of the most special.
That comfy corner of the couch, the middle spot of the bed where you cuddle up, your favorite place to sit and have coffee in the morning, those are the spots where your meaningful memories are made.
How special would it be to look back and have documentation of the spots in your home where your relationship was built and strengthened?
My goal when shooting outdoors is to find isolated spots, but that’s not always a certainty. But when you’re in the comfort of your own home you never have to worry about anyone else’s eyes on you.
I’ve found that couples are muchhh more relaxed and tend to forget they’re in front of a camera when they’re cuddled up in the comfort of their home. If you or your partner are not especially comfortable being in front of the camera this is a huge benefit.
What’s your favorite thing to do at home together on a Saturday afternoon?
Big coffee drinkers? Love to cook together? Like to play guitar and sing together? Happy hour is any hour in your home? Cuddling up on the couch with your pups is your happy place?
This is one of my questions on my questionnaire. This allows us to elevate your pictures by tying in special elements of your relationship, and frankly it just makes the session more enjoyable. We all have our special little bonding activities in our relationship and there’s no better time to show them off.
Showing your grandkids your whimsical outdoor photos, one day will be amazing, but how cool would it be to show them pictures of you two cooking in your kitchen in your first home?
I realized this when my husband deployed for the first time and I found myself pouring over all the pictures I had of us hanging out at home, wishing I had more.
I love open field, fairytale looking photos just as much as any photographer, but there’s so much meaning behind pictures from a session in your home that just can’t be replicated.
No matter how much your photographer puts you at ease, and directs you with posing most people automatically feel nervous being photographed. However, when you’re at home in front of the camera, that nervousness quickly melts away. Once we get the music going, you two get wrapped up in your favorite activity, and we all start chatting about the moment you first fell in love you’ll completely forget someone’s taking your picture.
So here’s your sign, friend, schedule yourself an in-home session and you’ll be so glad you did.
